This is a very simple and easy recipe to prepare. There is a lot of flavor because of the spices used. Don’t be afraid to throw your own twist on things to make them taste delicious to you. This was a recipe I put together with some leftovers on vacation. I tried to find what the prices on the items would be at the grocery store near my home. So please keep in mind they are roughly researched. I will be more thorough with future recipes and posts regarding prices of items.
1 lb of chicken $2.29 lb
2 Green Peppers $.68
1 Red Pepper $.98
1 Onion $.88 per pound ( roughly a lb)
The steak I used was from our farm so I can’t really price that, however if I was picking steak from the store I would choose 1lb of top round and that was $3.99 lb.
So for the chicken version of this meal it totaled $8.01 and it fed 5 people with leftover. The steak version was $9.71 for 5 people with leftovers.If each meal was served with only one choice of meat I would estimate it would still feed a family of 5. So that breaks down to about $1.94 per person for the steak fajitas and $1.60 per person for the chicken. You can barely buy an item off the value menu for those prices.
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 2 Tablespoons Oil(Your choice)
Stir chili powder, salt, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, together in a small bowl. Add oil to pan along with lemon juice. Add meat toss with oil and lemon juice. Add spices and cook meat until finished. Add veggies and cook to desired finish.
